All Things Hair

When it comes to hair I am no expert however there are some things that I have learned over the years about what works with my hair and what doesn’t.This is a personal journey that everyone needs to go through with their hair. Everyones hair is different, there are different textures, lengths, colours and it is a great idea to experiment with all of those things to see what works best for you and for your lifestyle. Not only have I learned a lot about what look works best I have also learned many tricks on how to heat style my hair and how to protect and take care of it. I have gotten many recommendations from you all to do a blog post all about hair and in particular different cuts, styles, colours and how to take care of it. I am going to do exactly that today and I hope you enjoy and find this helpful.

Happy Reading!

Cut

The cut of your hair all depends on your face shape and as well as your lifestyle. I would say that if you have a very active lifestyle  to go for shorter hair just so that it is easier to maintain and style. Where as if you have a less active like such as you are a blogger or you work in an office longer or medium length hair is perfect for you. However what matters most is your personal preference and what you feel most conformable with. Now when talking about face shape I have done a lot of research about what cuts look better for different face shapes and have come to these conclusions.

Round Face

For people with a round face shape it is better to go with a medium length cut with shorter layers. By medium length I mean a cut that hits bellow the chin or lower. This is because medium length hair will frame your face and give it a much slimmer look.

Square Face

For people with a square face shape it is better to go with long hair in order to down play your strong jawline. You also want to add some layers and choppy ends in your hair in order for you to be able to add a lot of texture. The texture in your hair will down play your jawline as well.

Oval Face

For people with an oval face shape you are lucky because pretty much any cut of hair will look good on you. However you want to avoid adding more height to the top of your head due to the fact that your face may appear long. This means teased updos or a really short spiky cut. You also want to look at your hair texture, if you have really curly hair avoid cutting your hair super short to avoid looking like a pyramid lol.

Heart Shaped Face

For people with a heart shaped face it is better to go with medium length hair and bangs. This is because heart shaped faces tend to have very defines chins. To allow your chin to appear less pronounced draw attention to your eyes and cheekbones. One of the best ways to draw the attention upwards is with bangs.

Long Face

For people with long faces I would recommend that you cut your hair short to allow your face to appear less long. It would also be a good idea to add shorter layers that reach right at the cheekbones and the chin to bring the eye up.

Colour

Colouring your hair is a scary thing. It is something that you are committing to for a long period time. It is not necessary for you to colour your hair and if you can; avoid it for as long as possible because believe me the price adds up. However the magical thing about colouring your hair is that it can give you a completely updated look. Scince we are entering the fall season  I thought that I would tell you all of the hair colour trends for this fall.

Hair Painting

The beautiful thing with hair painting is that it has a less “done” feel. You do not even have to touch your roots but if you do and it grows out it will just add to the laid back look instead of making it look like you have not looked in a mirror in a month lol.

Hair Strobing

Hair strobing is a technique that is mainly used for people with curly hair. It is when you use, dark, medium, and light color to create movement in the hair while respecting the natural texture.

Vibrant Colours

This is a more bold hair colour trend for this season but if you are up for it then take the chance! Deep blues and greens are super popular among people with dark hair and reds and oranges for people with light hair. Again if you are not ready to fully commit you can either do a peekaboo colour application or you can get some semi permanent hair colour to try out the trend.

Styling

I love taking the time to do my hair. I feel that if my hair is styled my whole life is together and it makes my outfit look 100x better. I usually pick what I want to do with my hair that day based on what I am doing and the look that I am going for. I have included some videos below on how to do some of my favourite hairstyles. As well I have included what occasions I would wear each of them to and the products that I use.

Beach Waves

To achieve this look I will curl my hair with a curling wand. Once I am done I will spray in some of my DIY beach wave spray  throughout my hair and scrunch it to give it a more beauty vibe.

How to make DIY beach wave spray:

  1. Fill a spray bottle almost half way with conditioner (leave in or regular)
  2. Fill the rest of the bottle with water
  3. Put the lid on and shake the bottle to mix it all together.

Loose Curls

To achieve this look I first spray heat protectant in my hair. I will then use my curling iron with the clamp however I will not use the clamp and utilize it as a curling wand. I like to do this because I find that the curls in the ends of my hair last longer throughout the day. I split my hair into two sections and begin to wrap one each sections and curl each one. I let my hair sit for an hour or so before applying hairspray.

TIP: Curl your hair while it is in a really high pony tail for a more voluminous look.

Straight Hair

I know that this is very basic but I thought that I would include it because it is one of my go to’s. If I am ever in doubt of what to do with my hair or I do not have enough time, straightening my hair always allows me to have a fast but put together look. To achieve this look I spray my hair with my Tresemme heat protectant spray, split my hair into two sections and then grab one inch pieces. I will then brush out each piece with a comb to get out any knots and then go over the piece a couple times with a straightener to me sure it is very smooth and sleek. To finish it off I will then rub some Moroccan oil throughout my hair.

Hair Care

Soft and healthy hair is something that is really important to me therefore I make sure to have a hair care routine that I stick to. Again what works for me may not work for you when it comes to your lifestyle and hair type. Here I will give you my current hair care routine tips and as well as links to buy the products that I mention.

  1. Wash your hair twice a week

You may think that I am crazy for washing my hair twice a week if you have very greasy hair however so did I originally. You can train your hair to go even longer between washes. It will be really greasy at first (which is actually a good thing because your hair can soak in its natural oils) but it will slowly get better, you just have to be patient. Washing your hair less not only saves you time but it also makes your hair less dry and saves your from having to damage it even more with hot tools.

2. Hair mask

The day before washing my hair I will tend to put a mask in my hair to really deep condition it and to make it soft and shinny once I wash it. I feel that it is a very important step in my hair care routine and I think that you should all try it out too.

3. Purple shampoo

I currently have blonde balyage therefore it is really important for me to wash my hair once a week with purple shampoo and conditioner. If you have blonde hair as well I recommend that you do this to ensure that you eliminate any brassiness in your hair. It will also allow you to be able to go longer between salon appointments.

4. Leave in conditioner or moroccan oil

Once I get out of the shower and brush my hair (starting from the bottom to reduce breakage) I will either put in some leave in conditioner or moroccan oil. I alternate between the two just because each one does something a little different.
