You all requested more festive baking recipes so today I bring to you my Candy Cane Cookie recipe. I love baking around Christmas time, and the time finally arrived to make our large batch of Christmas cookies. These candy cane cookies make for an adorable sweet treat that taste just as good as they look. They are easy to make and are a fun activity to do with friends or family as well. Keep reading to find out how to make them.

INGREDIENTS
FOR THE DOUGH
- 1/2 cup of butter at room temperature
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 3 cups of flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 3/4 teaspoon red food colouring
FOR THE GLAZE
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 1.8 teaspoon peppermint extract (optional)
- 1-2 tablespoons of milk
DIRECTIONS

- In a bowl of a stand mixer, combine butter and powered sugar and mix until fluffy.
- Add in your egg, and vanilla and mix until combined.
- Add in your flour and salt slowly, mixing until well combined.
- Divide your dough in half
- In the bowl of the stand mixer, combine one half of the cookie dough with red food colouring
- Shape each cookie dough into a ball, cover each one with parchment paper and place them in the fridge to chill for one hour or overnight.
- Once your dough has chilled preheat your oven to 375°C
- Scoop a tablespoon of the red and the white dough. Gently roll them out until they are about 6 inches long.
- Twist them together and shape them into a candy cane and place them into parchment paper or a cookie sheet
- Once you have made all or your candy canes place the cookie sheet into the fridge to chill for another 15 minutes.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes.
- While your cookies are baking prepare your glaze by mixing your powdered sugar, milk and peppermint extract (optional).
- Once your cookies have cooled slightly brush the glaze onto each of the cookies.
- Eat and enjoy!
