Hello everyone!
As many of you know I have been on a skin journey over the past year. I have always struggled with acne and scarring and have tried everything under the sun to improve my skin. I went to a dermatologist and their immediate answer was to go on Accutane, however I was convinced that if I used the right products, was consistent and had patience my skin would improve. After almost a year I can say that even though my skin isn’t perfect it is so much better then it ever was.
I used to hate buying expensive skincare since I would rather spend my money on clothes. Therefore, I would opt for drugstore options that wouldn’t do my skin any good. I also didn’t have any knowledge about what products where good for my skin type and the problems I was having. There was an overwhelming selection of products and brands that I had no idea where to turn. All of this was solved when I turned to my friend Maddy who is a Medical Esthetician. She explained the benefits of investing in quality skincare, that is geared toward my skin type. Once I realized that although drug store products are great for some people, my skin issues needed something more heavy duty. I started to use all of the products she recommended and wow the change in just 6 months or so of using them was outstanding. There are so many misconceptions about skincare, turning to a professional is so beneficial. She has her own spa called the BellaBar Spa if you want to check her out! (Instagram link: here).
In this post I will outline my skincare routine and all of the products I am using. If you are struggling with your skin as well I hope you find this helpful as I know it can seem like an endless cycle.
Happy Reading!
If you want to see my previous skin post where I talk about my chemical peel experience I have linked it here:
MY CHEMICAL PEEL EXPERIENCE: PRO CLEAR PEEL
STEP 1: DOUBLE CLEANSE MY FAC WITH CERAVE
Double cleansing is crucial in preventing acne. Think of it the same way as you would double washing your hair. The first cleanse gets the first layer of gunk off your face much like the first wash gets the initial dirt out of your hair. The second cleanse is the real clean where it can go deep into your skin to get the bacteria out and really cleanse. This one from Cerave is dermatologist recommended and is perfect if you have normal to oily skin like me.
STEP 2: FRESH STRAWBERRY EXFOLIANT
After cleansing I like to use a daily exfoliant to make sure I am bringing everything to the surface and replenshing the skin. This one from Fresh is a light exfoliant so its perfect to use everyday and the smell is devine. It leaves my skin feeling so soft and bright the next day.
STEP 3: DERMALOGICA CLEAR START FLASHFOLIANT
My next step after cleaning is to apply my Flashfoliant which is a leave on, flash-foaming exfoliant that keeps skin looking fresh and smooth. This product has salicylic acid in it and BHA which stimulates a natural exfoliant to help clear skin. I will apply this to my skin once daily and let it absorb until moving onto my next step. I highly recommend.
STEP 4: DERMALOGICA AGE BRIGHT SERUM
Maddy told me that the key part of my skincare routine that I was missing was a serum. After hearing what my problem areas of my skin were she recommended this one by Dermalogica. This has been a life changing product for me and I really don’t know why I didn’t add a serum into my routine sooner. It is a two in one serum meant to kill any bacteria that causes acne and prevent breakouts as well as reduce signs of aging. I have seen such a reduction in my acne since using this product, my skin is brighter and some of my acne scars are reduced. I use this after I cleanse my face and put on my Dermalogica Fresh Clear Start FlashFoliant.
Quick tip: If I ever do pop a pimple I will cleanse it then place this on top as well to prevent any bacteria from spreading to other pores on my face.
STEP 5: ORGINS GINZING UNDER EYE CREAM
I have just started to use an eye cream this year, because you can never start the anti aging process too early am I right ladies? This eye cream is amazing to depuff and brighten under my eyes as I am prone to puffy under eyes and some dark circles. I love how to smells as well.
