Hello everyone!
A little over a month ago I purchased the Apple Watch Series SE. Although I am no tech expert I thought now was the perfect time to share my thoughts about it as over the past year I have really been wanting to take the plunge and invest in one but wasn’t sure if it was worth it. I am a person that likes to be active but didn’t know if spending $400+ was the right move just to be able to track my workouts and get notifications on my wrist. In this post I am going to be giving you all the details and give you a final answer about whether I think its worth it! Hope you enjoy and let me know if you want to see more content like this on my blog in the comments.
FAQ
WHAT MADE YOU WANT AN APPLE WATCH?
My initial desire to get an apple watch came from a lot of my friends and family having fitness watches as well as various people on social media always taking about how much they love theirs. I am a person who loves fitness, and is always on the go so I liked the idea of being able to track my workouts as well as have everything I need on my wrist. I also thought it would come in handy when the world goes back to normal. As a student I commute daily so I would be able to quickly answer text messages and make phone calls, as well as use it to make payments and as my Presto. When I decided to make the purchase I didn’t know exactly what watch I wanted. I heard a lot about the Garmin, the Fitbit and the Apple watch but didn’t know which one fit my needs best. This is when I went into full research mode!
WHY THE APPLE WATCH?
Before starting my research I thought realistically about what I functions I needed the watch for. I wanted it to track my activity level, nothing too in depth but I wanted to be able to know my BPM, calorie burn, length of my workouts etc. I am also a big runner during the summer months and hated having to carry my phone with me so I wanted the ability to run, listen to music and track my distance without having to take my phone with me. I also wanted to be able to control my music and easily set timers from my watch during my workouts. For day to day I wanted it to have a sleek design, be able to make phone calls, and send text messages. Overall my criteria was quite basic. After doing my research on the Garmin I realized that a lot of the models were more expensive then the Apple Watch and included features that I ultimately would not use or need. When it came to the Fitbit I didn’t feel like their technology was up to date and I didn’t like the style of their watches. In the end I am an Apple girl at heart and the Apple Watch checked all the boxes as it is sleek and covers all the criteria I wanted within my budget.
WHY THE APPLE WATCH SE?
Once I decided on the Apple Watch I then needed to decide between the Series 6, the Series SE and the Series 3. I decided on the Series SE for multiple reasons, the first one being that I didn’t want to get the oldest model (the series 3) as I knew I would regret it. If I was going to be spending the money I wanted to do it right. I also found that the Series 3 was too basic for what I needed it for and I ultimetly did not like the colours it came in. If you are someone who wants just the core fitness features and does not mind then black and silver fish then I feel the Series 3 is the right one for you. Once I removed the Series 3 I was stuck between the SE and the 6. I looked at the model compare list on Apple’s site and realized there isn’t really much of a difference between the two yet the prices were drastically different. The SE starts at $279 where as the Series 6 starts at $400. The only real difference between the two was the always on retina display, and the ability to track your ECG and blood oxygen levels on the Series 6, all of which did not matter to me. The Series SE was basically the Series 6, for a fraction of the cost. It was a no brainer for me at that point.
The model I selected was the 40mm Rose Gold case with the white watch strap. One thing to keep in mind is that although Apple markets the watches as fully customizable, they are not. Only certain cases come with certain band colours and vice versa. I would suggest selecting the case colour you want first and foremost and you can always get different bands from either the Apple site or Amazon.
ACCESSORISES I PURCHASED:
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURTIE FEATURES/APPS?
- I love that I can quickly receive and check my notifications without having to get distracted by my phone
- I love that I can respond to text messages and make phone calls through my watch. Makes the whole process quick and easy. Perfect for on the go.
- I love that I can track my workouts in terms of time, heart rate and calories burned. I feel way more intentional with my workouts knowing the time between sets, how hard I am pushing myself and if I need to push myself harder.
- Another great feature on the watch is the motivational notifications it sends you. It will congratulate you on finishing a workout, let you know if your close to closing your rings and even notify you to stand up if you have been sitting to long. If one of your goals was to get active in 2021 this will for sure do the trick! Its like your own personal accountability partner.
- One of my favourite apps is the breathe app. I have it set to remind me to take a minute to breathe throughout the day. When I get stressed I forget to meditate but having a reminder is so beneficial, makes it so easy and I find I am calmer throughout the day. I can do it right from my watch, as it pulsates to let you know when to inhale and exhale.
- I love the map app on the apple watch because it is connected to your phone so when you type in your location it also shows on your watch. First off this makes directions way easier to see when your driving. Secondly the watch will actually vibrate when you are approaching where you need to turn. I find with the Maps app it can sometimes be delayed in telling you where to go. Through the vibrations I am notified ahead of time to prepare to turn. This may sound like a little thing but I didn’t realize how much I needed it.
- The walkie talkie feature is another really cool feature on the watch. Through this app you can send quick voice messages to anyone that your connected to with an Apple Watch. It is super fun to do throughout the day.
- I love the shared activity feature on the watch as well. I find that it forms a sense of community, and that is something we are all craving in times like these. I am connected to a few of my friends who have an Apple Watch and I am notified when they finish a workout, can see their activity for the day and even challenge them in a workout. I find this such a cool feature that was not available in other models.
- Lastly, I love the self timer remote on the Apple Watch. As a blogger I am constantly taking outfit photos and having my watch connect to my camera as a remote is so helpful.
WOULD YOU RECOMEND THE SERIES SE?
After having my watch for a little over a month now I can confidently say that I do recommend it. I love all of the features that it has and find that it makes my day to day life so much more seamless. Everything is connected between my watch and my phone in a way that makes thing so much more productive. My workouts are more intentional, I can quickly answer text messages and calls and it has allowed me to take more time for things like meditation. If you are going back an forth between whether to get an apple watch I say go for it. You will love having everything at easy access on your wrist and if your goal is to get more active in 2021 then this will for sure do the trick.
